Logistics planner in the N.I.C.O. project (B. Braun Medical AG, Sempach)

In spring 2024, B. Braun Medical AG inaugurated its new 9,000 m² sustainable production facility for disinfection and hygiene products. The plant is called “N.I.C.O.”, which stands for New Infection Control Operations, and is located in Sempach, Switzerland. With this plant, B. Braun Medical is sending a clear signal in favour of Switzerland as a production location and assuming responsibility for society in many respects.
In this project, SOLTIC was commissioned by a general planner to undertake the logistics planning across all phases (SIA 31–53) for the following trades:

High-bay warehouse with narrow-aisle forklift for packaging materials, insert components and hazardous substances
The use of narrow-aisle forklift trucks can significantly increase storage capacity and warehouse utilisation compared to conventional wide-aisle warehouses.
The space saving results from the narrow aisle width, but also from the optimal utilisation of the room height. The partially or fully automated stackers increase efficiency through fast and precise storage and retrieval.
Ergonomic repacking stations for packaging materials
Ergonomics at the workplace is a decisive factor for the health and productivity of employees. Repacking stations should therefore be particularly ergonomically designed, for example with height-adjustable work surfaces, ergonomic floor mats, intuitive arrangement of work equipment and automated support such as conveyor technology.

Conveyor technology connection (roller container) to clean room production
The connection of conveyor technology to cleanroom production areas places high demands on cleanliness and efficiency. Roller containers are a flexible solution for transporting materials in and out of the cleanroom. The aspects of contamination avoidance through airlock systems and cleanroom-compatible materials and efficient pharmaceutical logistics processes are important here, for example.
Transfer of hazardous substances to the 2nd floor
The safe transport of hazardous substances within a building, especially vertical transport between floors, requires special solutions. Hazardous materials can be transferred directly using the narrow-aisle forklift truck, for example, which is also used for goods movements in the warehouse. An intelligent forklift guidance system enables path-time-optimised, precise transports and transfers to the corresponding buffer section or similar. The automation options and sensor technology of the forklift trucks simplify the work and help to prevent accidents and leaks.

Pharmaceutical logistics: efficient and safe storage and handling systems
The demands placed on modern storage and production processes are constantly increasing. This also applies to the life science industry, especially when handling sensitive materials such as hazardous substances or in cleanroom production. Through the targeted use of technology and the observance of ergonomic principles, companies not only increase their productivity, but also improve the health and satisfaction of their employees.
